Sid Parnes, a humble, gentle giant in the field of creativity, has passed away. He was an extraordinarily generous and wonderful man.
Sid co-created the Creative Problem Solving Process (CPS), was a force behind the 60-year strong Creative Problem Solving Institute, co-founded the International Center for Studies in Creativity and wrote The Magic of Your Mind, a book that literally changed my life.
On the occasion of Sid’s death, below is an earlier post that, in retrospect, is a short paean to Sid’s considerable impact on my life.
We can all create a desired future instead of merely accepting what life offers.
Sidney Parnes, Visionizing
So often, we accept the trajectory we are on, capitulate to momentum, relax and go with the flow. We allow assumptions based on past experience to restrict our future choices. We waste our energies fire fighting.
Yet, we have the capacity to alter our trajectory, redirect momentum, boldly forge a new course. We are free to challenge established patterns and embrace novel options. We can visionize — and achieve — preferred futures.
