The New York State Board of Regents Reform Agenda includes a strong focus on data driven instruction. Data driven instruction is the use of formative student assessment data to improve teacher instructional practice.
Over the last two years, the Lockport City School District has articulated its approach to data driven instruction. And while the process continues to emerge there, Michelle Bradley, the district’s superintendent, has generously agreed to share the flow chart below so that other educators may benefit from Lockport’s work, as appropriate.
Note that the process as illustrated is extremely versatile. It defines data driven instruction as it might unfold
- For a single teacher, a grade level team, a department, or a building-wide data team.
- Using an in-the-moment assessment, a daily exit ticket, a weekly quiz, a unit test or a quarterly assessment.
